Crosbyton Elementary Second Graders Create Art for Informative Writing Project
Students in Second grade learned how oil pastels will resist watercolors by drawing abstract lines on watercolor paper with the oil pastels. Then they painted over it with watercolors and experienced the science of oil and water resisting each other. To practice writing an informative paragraph, students wrote the steps they took to create their piece of art using the sentence beginnings of First, Next, Then and Finally. They edited their work with three students and then with Ms. Talbot, their teacher. When they were finished with editing, they copied their work for a final draft and published it by having it hung in the hallway with their artwork. The project was not an easy task, but their perseverance shined through, and they received many accolades on their hard work and the results by others in the building.
