Crosbyton Elementary Second Graders Create Art for Informative Writing Project Students in Second grade learned how oil pastels will resist watercolors by drawing abstract lines on watercolor paper with the oil pastels. Then they painted over it with watercolors and experienced the science of oil and water resisting each other. To practice writing an informative paragraph, students wrote the steps they took to create their piece of art using the sentence beginnings of First, Next, Then and Finally. They edited their work with three students and then with Ms. Talbot, their teacher. When they were finished with editing, they copied their work for a final draft and published it by having it hung in the hallway with their artwork. The project was not an easy task, but their perseverance shined through, and they received many accolades on their hard work and the results by others in the building.

Crosbyton Second Graders Hoping to Catch Leprechauns After reading How to Catch a Leprechaun, 2nd graders at Crosbyton Elementary were curious if they could catch a leprechaun. Their teacher, Ms. Talbot sent home a note for the family to work together to create a trap that was worthy of catching a tiny man who was in search of gold and other things shiny. When the students brought their traps to school they displayed them for viewing in the hall. The two school days before Spring Break, the second graders set up and demonstrated their traps to the Pre-K, Kindergarten, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders as well as school staff. Many thanks to our judges who listened to each student as they presented how their trap worked and then voted on them. After the 2nd graders voted for their favorite, our winners were chosen. Students are excited to see what our next project will be. Also, the leprechauns did visit the class but were too clever for the traps, but they did leave goodies for the students to enjoy. Better Luck Next Year! 1st picture caption: Crosbyton 2nd grade students and their Leprechaun Traps. 2nd picture caption: Leprechaun Trap Winners: Alaia Turcios Best Double Trap, Nehemiah Bryand- Most Original, Daniel Reyes- Most Creative, Kayson Terral- Best Presentation and Mason Salas- Best in Show. 3rd picture caption: Students watching as Addison Silva demonstrates how she will catch a leprechaun in her trap.
